SUMO for cochlear implant users
Advantages of contralateral fittings If you have a cochlear implant in one ear and wear SUMO in the other ear, the extra low frequency amplification and output complements the implant. This provides further benefits in terms of speech perception in noise, localization and speech intelligibility than just the cochlear implant on its own.
A cost effective alternative Contralateral fittings yield similar benefits to bilateral cochlear implants, but at a fraction of the cost.
Preventing auditory deprivation Wearing a SUMO hearing aid in the non-implanted ear can help to prevent the deterioration of speech recognition caused by auditory deprivation. |
